Dr Danielle McMullen
For AMA President
Expert, experienced, future focused
01 — An AMA leader
An AMA member since internship, this organisation has been a fundamental part of my career. My first leadership role was as chair of the NSW doctor in training committee, and I’ve been a longstanding member of the AMA Council of General Practice. I was the inaugural Doctor in Training director on the AMA(NSW) board from 2014, before becoming AMA(NSW) President from 2020-2022. A presidency marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, my calm presence in the face of a crisis resulted in me being one of the most called upon voices in health leadership - both in media and at decision-making tables. Elected unopposed as Vice President of the Federal AMA in 2022, I have cemented my place as a health leader in Australia. As the AMA representative on the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce I have been a leading voice in General Practice reform. I was also personally appointed to the ministers Mental health reform advisory committee.
Over the past decade of involvement in health leadership I have established the relationships and skills required to deliver as AMA President. I’m ready to hit the ground running and ensure that the next two years build a system for the future
The AMA is the ONLY organisation that can represent doctors of all specialities and all stages across the country. Now, more than ever, we need a strong AMA. I am ready to lead that AMA
02 — A doctor first
My credibility as an advocate for doctors comes from my experience in the clinic room. As a GP in outer-metropolitan Brisbane I see patients from all walks of life. I’ve had experience in metropolitan, regional and rural GP in Sydney, Townsville, Cloncurry and now Ipswich. I strive to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care. The best part of general practice is hearing peoples stories, helping them navigate life’s challenges, and being there to celebrate the successes. In a world that is becoming increasingly disconnected, the family GP is still a trusted go-to. We need to protect the centrality of general practice in our nation’s health system, reward our GPs for the incredible complexity of the work we do, and allow us to support patients
I have a clinical interest in women’s health, family planning and mental health.
I carry my patients’ stories with me every day. They are at the centre of everything we do, and drive my determination to build a better system
03 — A Seasoned Media Professional
With signfiicant experience across TV, radio and print media, I stand ready to put the AMA’s best foot forward. I am comfortable to speak on a range of topics and am able to think on my feet, while respecting the importance of sticking to policy and always considering the interests of the profession as a whole. My ability to translate complex policy topics into consumer-friendly language means I’m regularly called upon by the media.
When I speak in public I speak not for me, but for all of you - it is the greatest privilege and responsibility of this role
